SB-18 Overview:
Vehicle Forfeiture - To keep our streets safer, I introduced a measure to get repeat drunk drivers off the road. It works like this: if a person is caught driving with a suspended or revoked license as a result of two prior DUI or drug-related driving convictions, then he loses his car. It’s time to crack down on the repeat chronic offenders that cause too much carnage and sorrow in our communities. They’ve already offended at least twice. They’ve already lost their license. They need to STOP driving. This bill aims to make it happen.
SB-79 Overview:
Paper Voting Record - This bill attempts to create a paper-record of every vote cast electronically in elections. It will safeguard against suspicions and mechanical error related to electronic voting equipment. Every vote cast will produce a paper “print-out” that documents a voter’s choices. As a further safeguard, after the election, the paper records will be sampled randomly to ensure the electronic voting is accurate and to decide whether a recount is necessary.
SB-96 Overview:
One-Stop Business Registration Location - Anyone who has attempted to start their own business knows what a hassle the first few steps can be. This bill attempts to minimize the hassle for our small business owners. It streamlines all the paperwork, permits, and applications a new business owner must go through into one single office where all relevant and needed forms can be obtained and submitted. In these financially-strapped times of our state’s budget, I have been informed that this bill could cost a bit much so I am looking into ways to cut down on costs. One idea is to limit the bill to making these forms available in one place over the Internet.
SB-179 Overview:
Insurance Guaranty Association Workers’ Compensation - This bill simply closes a trap door in current Workers’ Compensation law. Right now, when a workers’ compensation carrier goes bankrupt, some employers and workers covered by its policies are protected by a special fund that all employers pay into, over and above their regular workers’ compensation premiums. But a quirk in the law covers only smaller companies, and leaves larger companies unprotected and responsible for all existing workers’ compensation claims. My bill fixes that and says that all employers, large or small, who pay into the fund get the benefit of its safety net protection.
SJR-009 Developmentally Disabled Day at the Capitol - This joint resolution honors the service care providers of the state of Colorado who tirelessly work to better the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.
